House of the Week: The ‘Tea Box’ has hit the market in Bellport Village

|

When character, history and sheer beauty all come together, it makes for one gem of a listing.

Add views of the bay, ocean and Fire Island. You’re at 49 Browns Lane in Bellport Village.

The house locally known as the “Tea Box” has hit the market through Rice Realty Group, Inc. The asking price is $2.5 million.

We’ll let listing agent Dave Rice tell us about the history:

“In the late 1800’s and into the 1900’s it was used as a hotel for out-of-town guests and sailors staying in Bellport for short- and long-term visits,” he said. “The house was nicknamed the “Tea Box” because of its flat roof and rectilinear shape, which resembled a giant box of tea.”

Even today locals call it the Tea Box house.

The unique architecture also allows for two rooftop decks overlooking the village and the water.

“Its such a great house for weekenders or locals who love to entertain and want guests stay for a night or two,” says Rice.

The house might date to the 19th century, but the inside is completely modern in finishings and furnishings (photos below). It features large, bright rooms (5 in all, and 4.5 baths) with all updated amenities.

There’s also an open gourmet kitchen spill into a screened-in porch, which also leads to your 50 X 20 gunite pool with blue stone patio, and with plenty of privacy. Click here to visit the full listing.
