Video shows countless rats frolicking in broad daylight in Huntington

|

Rats are running wild in downtown Huntington — and residents are fed up.

A stomach-turning video posted by News 12 Long Island on Facebook — filmed by Huntington resident Frank Carfora — shows a pack of rodents scurrying about near West Carver Street near New York Avenue Thursday evening, while still daylight. The video — and prevalence of rats in the community — has startled locals and sparked outrage.

“It’s disgusting. We don’t need rats here,” Courtney Gabriel of Huntington said in the report.

In the video, the rats are seen popping in and out of holes in the dirt and darting under a line of arborvitae, near the Gundermann & Gundermann Insurance building. Some are seen playfully wrestling with each other and doing flips.

Here’s the video submitted by Carfora:

“I think we’re just seeing more in town than we’ve seen in the past. I don’t know if it’s restaurants or whatever,” added fellow resident Charlie DiPietro.

Town officials told News 12 they’ve been flooded with complaints and have now called in Suffolk County for backup. The county has yet to respond to the station’s request for comment.
