An elderly Huntington couple are hospitalized with serious injuries Saturday after the car they were traveling in Friday evening jumped a sidewalk, sideswiped another vehicle and slammed into a metal utility pole in Huntington Station, police said.

George Falkowski, 90, was behind the wheel of a 2011 Honda heading eastbound on Pulaski Road about 6:40 p.m. when the vehicle veered onto the sidewalk to the right of a 2020 Mercedes-Benz that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of New York Avenue. The Honda struck the Mercedes before crashing into the pole.

Falkowski and his passenger, Anita Falkowski, 92, were taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Mercedes, Marie Fond-Rose, 56, was treated for minor injuries at the same hospital.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are asking anyone with information to contact them at 631.854.8252.
