An elderly man was killed and his adult son was seriously injured in a late-night house fire in Huntington Station, Suffolk police said.
Barry Garfman, 82, was pronounced dead at the scene of the house fire at 174 Depot Road about 11:15 p.m. Sunday, police said.
Garfman’s 42-year-old son Dustin, who also lived in the home, was taken to Huntington Hospital and later moved to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
Second Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting the fire; members of five local fire departments put down the blaze. Flames had fully consumed the two-story home.
Detectives with the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section are investigating the cause of the fire, though authorities said the blaze does not appear to be a criminal act.
