Huntington’s iconic Golden Coach Diner to close after 45 years

|

A beloved Huntington institution is saying its final goodbye.

The Golden Coach Diner, an iconic dining spot opened 45 years ago by the late Harry Korines, will close its doors for good on Monday, April 14, marking the end of an era for loyal patrons and the Korines family.

Ownership announced their retirement and the eatery’s closure today, signaling a sad trend for the local diner scene. The Golden Coach is the second popular Long Island diner in recent days to announce its closure, following Baldwin Coach Diner, which made its closure announcement on March 28.

Opened in 1980 by Harry Korines, who died two years ago, the Golden Coach Diner quickly became a warm gathering spot for friends and families.

“Harry opened the doors of this diner with a simple dream: to provide a warm, welcoming place where friends and families could come together, share a meal, and create lasting memories,” the Korines family shared in a heartfelt message posted on Instagram. “Over the decades, our diner became more than just a place to eat – it became a home, a gathering spot, a second family for so many.”

The diner was a place where countless celebrations and milestones were marked, from birthdays to casual meals with friends, said the Korines while expressed their gratitude for the special bond they shared with the community.

“To every regular who shared a cup of coffee, to every family who celebrated birthdays and milestones here, and to every newcomer who chose us as their dining spot – we thank you,” they said in their note. “Your loyalty, friendship, and support meant the world to Harry, to us, and to everyone who worked here.”

The Korines family invited the community to make one last visit before the diner shuts its doors.

“Though we are saying goodbye to this chapter, the memories will live on,” the family wrote. “Thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives and for being part of ours.”

Loyal patrons were hit hard by the news of the closure.

“The best diner and landmark in Huntington ❤️” @skylinerealestatepartners commented on the Korines family’s post.
