Island Park summer staple Pop’s announces permanent closure

|

Pop’s Seafood Shack & Grill, a well-known summer destination on Long Island, has announced its closure.

Pop’s Seafood Shack & Grill first opened its doors on July 1, 2011. It quickly became a popular spot among locals and revelers alike for its scenic waterfront views and vibrant nightlife. Its closure marks the end of an era, leaving behind a void in the community that may be hard to fill.

In a statement released on Facebook Saturday afternoon, the restaurant’s owners announced that their decision to close down was a result of their commitment to the Empire Wind renewable energy project. This ambitious initiative will see the restaurant location and other properties along Railroad Place become part of the offshore wind farm project off the coast of Long Island.

“We want to thank our staff and patrons for being unique, inspiring, wild, and crazy and we love you all for it!” the statement reads.
