Quick Bites: Joe’s Restaurant and Pizzeria in Shirley

Anthony Donofrio, manager of Joe's Restaurant and Pizzeria

Joe’s Restaurant and Pizzeria has been serving the Shirley area since 1977. This family-owned and operated joint moved to its current location at 433 William Floyd Parkway in 2001, leaving its original home down where The Home Depot is currently located.

Vincent Donofrio bought the placed a month after it opened and kept the name, said his son, Anthony, 41, of Middle Island, who has been working at Joe’s since he was 18 and currently manages it.

Anthony Donofrio said that Joe’s best-selling pie by far is pepperoni. Our reader poll agreed with him. Another big draw: the hot wings. The shop goes through 140 to 160 pounds of wings a week.

“They’re made to order,” Donofrio said. “They’re baked, then fried, and then thrown right into the sauce. That’s the way to do it.”

In addition to delivering to homes in the Shirley-Mastic area, Joe’s also delivers to the Smith Point County Park campgrounds all summer long.
