The new Netflix movie set on Long Island and starring Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke is now available to subscribers to the streaming giant. “Leave the World Behind” went live today.
It was June of 2022 when Greater Long Island reported that Roberts, the original Pretty Woman, looked great filming scenes for the movie with Hawke on the beach at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park.
The two highly acclaimed actors — both wearing sunglasses — were seen strolling the beach, setting up a sun umbrella and lounging on a blanket and beach chair. Photographers also captured Roberts, who earned an Oscar playing “Erin Brockovich” in 2001, chatting on her phone and reading a book while lying on her stomach on a beach blanket. The pandemic drama film, primarily set at a Long Island vacation home, is an adaptation of author Rumaan Alam’s 2020 novel “Leave the World Behind.” Two-time Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali also stars in the film, as does prolific actor Kevin Bacon.
Movie synopsis
An ad executive (Roberts), her college professor husband (Ethan Hawke) and kids (Charlie Evans and Farrah Mackenzie) are spending the weekend in a luxurious rental on Long Island. Late one night two strangers (Mahershala Ali and Myha’la) show up with news of a cyberattack and blackout, claiming that the house is theirs and seeking refuge. No one is quite sure who to trust as the apocalypse looms.
