Kansas City film fest is next stop for Blue Point film ‘One Moment’

Fresh off its buzz-drawing run at Silicon Valley’s Cinequest Film Festival, the locally produced “One Moment” starring the late Danny Aiello is among the titles at the Kansas City Film Festival, April 12-18.

Written, directed and produced by Blue Point’s Deirdre O’Connor, a Nassau Community College communications professor, the film will be available to watch online throughout the week via the virtual festival.

“One Moment” centers on the story of Joe McGuiness, a recently widowed Irish-Italian father of four 40-something adults. He is played by Aiello, in his final film.

The elderly patriarch struggles with forgetfulness and losing his independence, while his children juggle caring for him with looking after their families.

The film has drawn significant praise. In March, it was named Best Comedy at the 15th annual Beaufort International Film Festival in South Carolina. Aiello, 86, who died suddenly in December 2019, was posthumously awarded Best Actor.

Later last month, during the Cinaquest Film & Creativity Festival, O’Connor’s debut film was tapped by The San Jose Mercury News as one of “12 films to see” at the virtual fest. “One Moment” has even landed on the popular movie rating website Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie was filmed entirely on Long Island — and mostly in Blue Point, Bayport, Sayville and Patchogue. There are scenes inside Cornucopia Natural FoodsDorothy’s Fine Jewelry and Bistro 25 in Sayville, as well at Corey Beach and the old St. Ursula’s in Blue Point and Blue Goose restaurant in Patchogue.
