Newfield High School’s strong finish to the regular season caught the attention of a pro baller.
The Wolverines closed out the season with four consecutive wins, defeating North Babylon, Copiague, Huntington, and Northport to secure one of the final spots in the Section XI AAA Playoffs.
Yesterday, Lakers guard Austin Reaves gave the Wolverines a shoutout as they prepare to face No. 6 seed Ward Melville on the road in the first round at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.

This marks Newfield’s third playoff appearance in the last four years. The team finished the regular season 10-8.
“I have coached some of these kids since they were in our youth camps,” said Wolverines assistant coach Chris DiPaola. “Seeing it all come together at the varsity level is special.”
The Wolverines have found success both on and off the court. This season, the team raised over $5,000 for Positively Pink, a nonprofit that supports women with breast cancer.
