Hurricane Harvey caused devastation across eastern Texas, and Suffolk County lawmakers are doing their part to help bring relief.
And they’re calling on the rest of us.
Starting Wednesday, Sept. 6, the Legislature is teaming up with the Suffolk County Lions Club to collect non-perishables for a food drive, as well as school supplies to help those in Texas.
“When Sandy hit Long Island, an endless stream of support and donations poured out from volunteers from across the country,” said the Legislature’s presiding officer, DuWayne Gregory of Amityville. “We now want to aid Houston in that same spirit.”

Donations can be dropped off at the Riverhead County Center in Riverside or at your local legislative office (listed below) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
As of now, elected officials and the Lions Club will keep collections opened indefinitely depending on the support needed.
“We’re going to continue helping as long as there is a need in the area,” said Gregory.
