Check out who showed up for dinner in Northport Wednesday night.
None other than New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. Major League Baseball’s potential National League Manager of the Year sat down for dinner in the dining room of the Italian restaurant Robkes. And from the looks of it, he enjoyed a scrumptious-looking short rib orecchiette with a side of ravioli — on the house.
NY Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza in for Dinner tonight !!! What an honor !!! What a season !!! 💙

Arguably one of Long Island’s most celebrity-magnetic restaurants, Robkes — and its diehard Yankees fan owner Louis Selvaggio Jr. — welcomed the Mets no-longer-rookie skipper with open arms. The visit comes just a couple of days after Mendoza flew back into town after his Mets were eliminated by Los Angeles in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series.
Mets great Gooden at Robkes days ago
Mendoza, in his first year at the helm, has been heralded for leading the Mets on a magical run through the regular season, and then especially the playoffs. Clearly, he wanted to keep the magic going — and his stomach happy — with his visit to the popular Fort Salonga Road restaurant.
Perhaps Mendoza got a recommendation from Mets Hall of Famer Doc Gooden. The pitching great from New York’s 1986 World Series team dined at the restaurant just last week — before catching the ceremonial first pitch at Game 5 of the championship series at Citi Field.
‘Wear a freakin Mets hat …’
Mendoza paused for an Instagram shot with Selvaggio, who proudly kept his Yankees hat on. (The Yankees reached the World Series and play Game 1 Friday night in Los Angeles).
@ericajean481 opined, “Would it kill you to wear a freakin Mets hat just once ?!!! 😂”
“I had one in the car !!!” Selvaggio replied. On Facebook, Kevin Keuchler commented: “Show some respect Bro!!! LGM!!”
@mendosurfer pleaded for Delvaggio to add “Chicken Mendoza,” to the menu. “We need it on the specials,” he commented. “Has to has to happen,” Selvaggio replied.
And Hofstra basketball coach and NBA veteran Speedy Claxton commented: “🔥🔥🔥.” Selvaggio replied to Claxton that Mendoza “had the same steak you get !” Though we haven’t seen a steak in the photos.
Sayville’s O’Hoppe caught dinner at Robkes
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe — from Sayville — also enjoyed his plate at Robkes earlier this month. The Long Island great hit 20 home runs in 2024 for the Angels and is considered a future MLB star.
