Melville-based Leviton has been named one of the best private companies to work for in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings — and it’s the only Long Island company to earn the distinction.

The 2025-2026 U.S. News Best Companies to Work For: Private Companies list, released this week, evaluates privately owned U.S. companies with more than 5,000 employees. In total, 277 businesses across 14 industries made the cut, including just 18 from New York state — most of which are headquartered in New York City.

Founded in 1906, Leviton is a global manufacturer of electrical wiring devices, network and data center connectivity solutions, lighting energy management systems and more. With more than 100 years in business and over 10,000 employees, the company prides itself on innovation, sustainability, and delivering smart, efficient solutions for homes, businesses, and infrastructure.

“As we look to the future, Leviton will continue to advance connectivity, safety, efficiency, and productivity in the spaces we live, work and play,” the company states on its website. The company is led by CEO Daryoush Larizadeh.

U.S. News’ rankings were developed to help job seekers evaluate employers based on what matters most to today’s workforce. The list measures factors such as compensation and benefits, work-life balance, job and company stability, physical and psychological workplace comfort, sense of belonging, and professional development opportunities.“Whether you’re a new grad launching your career in the age of AI, a seasoned professional focusing on mission-driven opportunities or an HR executive researching organizational methods… these ratings provide a hub to see which businesses are supporting their employees best,” said Carly Chase, vice president of Careers at U.S. News.

To qualify, companies needed to have at least 5,000 employees, more than $500 million in annual revenue, and a minimum of 75 employee reviews on Glassdoor from 2021 to 2024. Publicly available employee sentiment, expert input, and editorial judgment were all factored into the rankings.

On Glassdoor, 82 percent of the employee reviews indicate that the worker would recommend Leviton to a friend. Also in worker reviews, 89 percent approve of Larizadeh’s leadership.

One Glassdoor reviewer explained that the pros of working at Leviton are: “The people that work at Leviton are wonderful. The turnover for the younger staff is about average but the older staff is very stable and there are many employees that work for Leviton that have been here for well over 20 years.”

But they mention some cons too: “The pay is not the best and depending on which department you are in the culture can be amazing or not so good. The boss in that department is what determines the culture. As a whole company culture is still very family oriented.”

For many of the employees, working remotely or in a hybrid model had been options since the COVID-19 pandemic. But according to one reviewer, that work schedule flexibility changed dramatically in May.

“Production was great while remote/hybrid. Now it has moved to 1 day remote and strictly to 9-5 no leaving early even if you work through your break,” the reviewer said. “Flexibility has definitely diminished.

“Now it feels a little bit hostile compared to before which was actually family oriented … it feels company oriented and it is tiring,” the same reviewer added.
