The New York State Department of Transportation announced that motorists should expect an overnight detour this week on the Long Island Expressway at Exit 67 for maintenance on the Yaphank Avenue bridge.

Tonight, eastbound traffic will follow a detour off the expressway at Exit 67 and immediately re-enter the expressway. Westbound travelers will be detoured on and off the expressway on Thursday, Sept. 24. Work on both nights will begin at 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning.

As with most road and bridge projects, work may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
