A new indoor play space is making big fun out of little steps in Selden.
Lil Steps Fun Zone officially opened in late June at 628 Middle Country Road, offering 4,000 square feet of interactive play for children ages 10 and under — from crawlers to climbers and everyone in between.
The space is packed with unique play zones, sensory activities, and tech-driven fun. Shoes off, socks on — and the adventure begins.
To the left, kids can explore a massive indoor playground with tunnels, an electric slide, swings, a climbing wall, and a ball pit. To the right, there’s a sensory-friendly corner featuring kinetic sand, a LEGO table, and other hands-on play.
But owner Asim Nasim says the real showstopper is a high-tech art station where kids color their own characters — think dragons, fairies, dinosaurs — then watch them come to life on a big screen.
“The kids love seeing their artwork come to life,” Nasim said.
In the back, a dedicated “crawler zone” is filled with baby-safe toys, a soft merry-go-round, spinning pods, and even a mini gravel site that’s become a hit with parents. There’s also an enclosed trampoline with a basketball hoop.
Nasim’s son, Nabil, said a family favorite is hidden inside the ball pit, which features a giant screen that lets kids play games using the plastic balls.
“There’s at least 40 games in there alone,” he said.
The Nasims, based in Commack, have been in the children’s entertainment world for years. They came up with the idea for Lil Steps about four years ago and searched far and wide for the right location. After signing the lease in Selden, construction took roughly a year.
Nabil said part of that time was spent traveling to toy expos around the world, looking for standout games and features.

“We met with merchants from all around the world,” he said. “So it took some time to pick exactly what we wanted — and it’s still a work in progress.”
One of their goals was to create a safe, manageable space for younger kids — a place where parents could relax without worrying about rowdy teens or big crowds.
“We have family with younger ones and there’s not much to do,” Nabil said. “And the larger places can be hard to keep their eyes on the little ones.”
So far, the community response has been overwhelming.
“In the two weeks since we opened, it’s been busy every day,” he said. “We barely did any marketing. The moms are carrying this for us.”
Lil Steps is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offers all-day passes — meaning you can leave and come back later the same day. Tickets are $20 per child, with siblings an additional $15. Children under 2 are $15, and adults get in free.
There’s also a party room available for birthdays and special events.
“If kids are looking for something to do and want to burn some energy, then bring them here,” Nabil said. “We have fun games and other things that you won’t find at other locations.”
