The beloved Argyle restaurant in Babylon is being saved.
That, and the rapidly expanding Lily Flanagan’s Restaurant Group is about to add a fourth restaurant to its village portfolio, which already includes Lily’s, The Villager, and The Local.
Because Lily’s is taking over the closed restaurant for the relaunch, planned for this fall.

“Think chophouse, fine wines, bourbons, & cocktails – we can’t wait to serve you!” reads a post on Instagram. “The Argyle has been a staple in the Babylon Village community for over 20 years & @lfrg_ny is honored to be able to continue that & share this new chapter with everyone ❤️ Follow along to stay updated!”
The announcement comes about two months after Argyle ownership announced the restaurant would be closing after nearly 25 years at 90 Deer Park Ave.
Lily’s founder Niall Crowe will be contacting Greater Long Island soon with additional details so be sure to check back.
The memories
After Greater Long Island published news of the Argyle’s impending closure in June, hundreds of readers took to Facebook and Instagram to share fond memories of The Argyle, and put the restaurant’s opening into historic context in relation to the village’s transformation into a top dining destination on Long Island.
Take this comment from Jenn Perri Zembreski:
“I remember when they first opened,” she wrote on Facebook. “I worked at an office right down the block and we’d go there for lunch sometimes. It was the first contemporary restaurant in the village and what changed the scene in Babylon. From that point forward, we’ve seen some really great restaurants open and I can’t help but think it was the Argyle that started [the change] almost 25 years ago.
“Thanks for the many great dinners, drinks, and overall good times! Cheers…”
Before The Argyle took up shop at 90 Deer Park Avenue, the space previously played host to Stillman’s from the 1980’s through the 90’s. And before Stillman’s, it was John’s Bar in the 1970’s into the 80’s.
Lily Flanagan’s Restaurant Group also operates Oakdale Brew House and The Wharf, which are both in Oakdale, The Villager in Farmingdale, as well as Riverhead Brew House, a full brewery and restaurant that opened in Riverhead this spring.
