A loaded handgun was discovered at Splish Splash water park in Calverton after a disturbance involving several juveniles, Riverhead police said.
Cops were called to the property Wednesday at 5:59 p.m. — just before closing time at the popular park — after an employee found the gun.
Patrol officers secured the firearm, and later handed it over to detectives, who have launched an investigation into who brought the gun to the park and who may have been in possession of it.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to call Riverhead Police at 631.727.4500, ext. 312.
Park goers on Wednesday told Greater Long Island that they witnessed security guards running intently in different directions near the entrance just before 6 p.m.
Splish Splash saw another weapon-related incident in 2019 when a Queens man was arrested for trying to enter the park with what appeared to be a handgun. It was later identified as a BB gun that resembled a Glock.
