Long Island Game Farm’s cherished 50-year-old macaw dies

|

The Long Island Game Farm has announced the sad news that the zoo’s wise and beloved blue-and-gold macaw, Buddy, has died at about 50 years old.

Buddy arrived at the Manorville park in 1999 and became one of the first animals to greet visitors when they entered the park.

The lovable bird is pictured above with Chela Novak, daughter of Melinda Novak, owner of the Game Farm. Novak’s family has owned and operated the small local zoo since 1970.

“He will certainly be missed by Game Farm staff and guests alike,” the Game Farm said in its announcement.

Macaws like buddy are highly intelligent and can live up to 60 years, according to the World Wildlife Fund based in Washington, D.C.
