A Long Island brother and sister team won more than $127,000 playing on “Wheel of Fortune” in an episode that aired Friday night on ABC, but was recorded in September on what would have been their late mother’s 56th birthday.
Playing with their Antonieta Krisa’s funeral Mass cards in their pockets, Port Jefferson Station natives Tom Krisa and Valerie Reynolds absolutely stole the show, dominating play on the wheel and winning $100,000 in the bonus round by solving the puzzle, “A Juicy Burger.”
Joining in on the celebration on set were Tom Krisa’s wife Catherine, the siblings’ dad Tommy and a family friend Virginia.
Check out the big moment below when the brother and sister won their fortune in the bonus round. They hardly noticed that the show’s confetti machine wasn’t working.
During the wheel rounds, Krisa and Reynolds won a trip for two to Aruba when Tom Krisa solved the puzzle, “Chewy Fudge Brownie.”
But it was Valerie who secured the big money in the bonus round, audibly sounding out “A Juicy Burger” with about six seconds remaining on the 10-second clock.
While growing up, the brother and sister gathered nightly by the family television with their mom to watch the classic game show hosted by Pat Sajek and Vanna White.
“It was my mom’s favorite show,” Tom Krisa told Maggie Sajak, host of the post-game show, “The Spin”.
“She never missed a single episode,” he added.
Krisa noted the close bond that he and his sister have always shared.
“In life, we’ve always been such a great team, inseparable,” he said.
The siblings also expressed their amazement that the taping of the show — part of the program’s “Home for the Holidays” week — landed on their mother’s birthday.
“If that’s not a sign, I don’t know what is,” Tom Krisa said.
