Lucharitos Farm to serve breakfast on weekends

|

Since Aug. 15, Lucharitos Farm in Center Moriches has hosted a Saturday morning program for children to learn and play on the farm before the Lucharitos taco truck opened at 11:30 a.m.

While watching kids explore, LaMaina, Lucharitos’ owner, said he realized something was missing for the parents who brought their kids to a “Lucha Kids” event that started 10 a.m.: “Coffee and something to eat.”

In response, beginning this Saturday, Lucharitos Farm will open at 10 a.m. to serve coffee and pre-prepared breakfast items on weekends.

LaMaina said the menu will feature two quick-heat choices: a breakfast quesadilla and either a breakfast burrito or a breakfast sandwich.

The restaurant’s hot coffee will be made with beans from Tend Coffee in Shirley, and it will serve cold brew from Ace Coffee Co. in Patchogue.

Lucharitos will also serve freshly squeezed juice, courtesy of The Giving Room in Southold.

The Center Moriches Lucharitos has been operating out of a taco truck since last spring while the restaurant has been under construction, so until he has a proper kitchen to bake fresh pastries and croissants, LaMaina will turn to Blue Duck Bakery Cafe in Southampton. He must also look for a place to purchase locally sourced eggs since the farm’s chickens are too young to lay.

LaMaina hopes the restaurant will open next month.

“We just put the floors in,” he said. “We’re putting trim up Tuesday, electric Wednesday, so it’s gonna be a busy week this coming week.”

This new weekend menu is a chance for LaMaina to “test the soil slowly” and see if there will be a demand for grab-and-go breakfast offerings in Center Moriches.

“I just felt like it was a neat little spot to pull in, grab something quick and get out of there,” LaMaina said. “There’s more opportunities to have some fun with it, give my guys more hours, employ more people and hopefully make people happy with a nice hot good fresh cup of coffee and something good to eat.”
