Man pulled from water in Long Beach, regains pulse after CPR

|

A man in cardiac arrest was rescued from the ocean Monday evening in Long Beach after nearly drowning near the Lincoln Jetty, authorities said.

The Long Beach Fire Department received a call just after 5:30 p.m. for a person in distress near Lincoln Boulevard and Ocean Beach Park. Four members of the Long Beach Fire Department jumped into action — three swimming and one on a surfboard — and were able to pull the man from the water, according to the department.

Back on shore, emergency crews immediately began CPR and used a defibrillator before the man was put into an ambulance.

Advanced Life Support treatment was used on the way to Mount Sinai South Nassau Emergency Department in Long Beach. After regaining a pulse, the man was later transferred to the main Mount Sinai South Nassau facility in Oceanside.

Rescue efforts were supported by Atlantic Beach Rescue, the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, and the Inwood Fire Department.

The Lincoln Jetty is located at the foot of Lincoln Boulevard off the beach.
