The Pattersquash Creek Civic Association is again helping dreams come true for William Floyd High School graduates this spring.
Twenty seniors have submitted applications for the group’s three scholarships, which will be presented during the school district’s Senior Scholarship Night on June 9.
Among this year’s applicants are students who have volunteered at area churches and scout organizations, as well as at the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library, a local ambulance company, the William Floyd Community Summit and the Lighthouse Mission.
“We should all be proud of the quality of graduates coming out of our William Floyd schools!” civic association President Frank Fugarino said.
The applicant list includes aspiring teachers, nurses, EMTs, dentists, lawyers and activists for climate action and LGBT causes. Some of the students come from families with siblings and parents who cope with anxiety disorders, autism, cancer and drug abuse.
The group’s three student awards are the Pattersquash Creek Civic Association Scholarship; the Emergency, Medical and Law Enforcement Services Scholarship; and the O-CAT Animal Care and Rescue Scholarship.
“There is an opportunity to join in this rewarding effort by reading applications and/or adopting an applicant associated with a cause or career goal,” Fugarino said, “to enable even more scholarships.”
If you’re interested in contributing to the scholarship fund, Fugarino said to make a check out to Pattersquash Creek Civic Association, identifying the cause in the memo as “Scholarship,” along with your focus or interest.
