2½-year-old boy hospitalized after being found unresponsive in Mastic Beach pool

A child was hospitalized Friday after being found unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool in Mastic Beach, Suffolk County police said.

Police said officers responded to a home on Mayfield Drive — between Wavecrest Drive and Riverside Avenue — about 11:17 a.m. after receiving a report of an unresponsive child in the pool.

Emergency dispatch audio reviewed by Greater Long Island indicates the victim was a 2½-year-old boy. The dispatcher advised responding units that the child had been pulled from the pool and that CPR was underway.

Dispatch audio also indicated the child was being transported to NYU Langone Hospital – Suffolk. Police have not independently confirmed the child’s age, gender, condition or destination hospital as of Friday afternoon.

The incident remains under investigation.
