Mather Hospital named among America’s 250 Best Hospitals for 2025

|

Mather Hospital, part of Northwell Health, has been recognized as one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals for 2025 by Healthgrades, placing it in the top 5 percent nationwide for clinical performance for a third consecutive year.

The Port Jefferson-based hospital is one of only seven in New York State to earn this distinction.

The distinction highlights Mather’s excellence in patient outcomes across key service areas, including coronary intervention, pulmonary care, gastrointestinal care and critical care.

“Mather consistently ranks among the top hospitals nationwide for patient care, safety, and clinical excellence,” said Kevin McGeachy, president of Mather Hospital. “This achievement reflects our commitment to investing in our staff and creating a culture that elevates care beyond expectations.”

Healthgrades evaluated about 4,500 hospitals using data on mortality and complication rates for over 30 common conditions and procedures. Their analysis underscores significant performance gaps nationwide, emphasizing the importance of seeking care at top-rated facilities like Mather Hospital.

From 2021 to 2023, Healthgrades estimated that if all hospitals performed at the level of America’s 250 Best, more than 174,000 lives could have been saved.

“Mather Hospital is elevating the standard for quality care nationwide,” said Dr. Brad Bowman, chief medical officer at Healthgrades.
