Medford Chamber plans autism-friendly holiday festival Dec. 6

|

The Medford Chamber of Commerce is planning an autism-friendly holiday festival this December, with an emphasis on making the celebration welcoming to families of all abilities.

The Holly Jolly Medford Chamber Festival and Holiday Market will take place Sunday, Dec. 6, from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at Medford Memorial Park, 2215 Route 112, chamber officials have announced.

Organizers say the event is designed to provide an inclusive environment for individuals with autism and other disabilities who may not always feel comfortable attending traditional community festivals.

โ€œWe want families who may not always feel comfortable attending traditional community festivals to know that they are welcome, valued, and an important part of our community,โ€ the chamber said in an email to Greater Patchogue, signed by Erinkelly Connell and Tex Dennerlein.

The afternoon will feature live holiday entertainment, a Christmas tree and menorah lighting, a holiday market showcasing local businesses, children’s games and activities, food and seasonal treats.

The chamber will also present community awards recognizing individuals who have made a difference in the area.

The celebration will bring together local schools, businesses and families from Medford, Patchogue and surrounding communities, with a focus on autism acceptance, understanding and inclusion, the email reads.
