Mega Millions second prize ticket worth $1M sold on Long Island

|

Nobody on Long Island hit the huge jackpot in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing, but one lucky player struck gold with a $1 million second prize ticket purchased in Locust Valley.

The Conoco gas station at 320 Forest Ave. was one of three New York locations that sold second-place winning tickets for the drawing, New York Lottery confirmed. The winning numbers selected were 7, 11, 22, 29 and 38 — and the Mega ball picked was 4.

Across the country, a total of 12 second prize tickets were sold — each matching the five numbers drawn except for the Mega ball.

The other New York winning tickets were sold Upstate at a Speedway gas station in Cicero and at a Smokes 4 Less in Newburgh. The ticket sold in Newburgh is worth $2 million because it was bought with the Megaplier option added on.

The one winning jackpot ticket sold for the drawing was purchased in New Jersey, and is estimated to be worth $1.13 billion before tax withholdings.

The winning numbers for the Mega Millions game are drawn from a field of one to 70. The Mega Ball is drawn from a separate field of one to 25. The odds of winning 1 in 292.2 million. And the pot is progressive if no one hits. The Mega Millions drawing is televised every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m.
