A fast-growing drive-thru coffee chain is looking to make its way to Selden.
7 Brew is exploring plans for a new location at Independence Plaza along Middle Country Road, according to Brookhaven Town Councilman Neil Manzella, who announced the proposed development Wednesday.
“The rumors are true. 7 Brew is looking to build here in Selden,” Manzella wrote in a social media post.
The company is targeting an area behind Five Guys and Guitar Center within the shopping center, Manzella said.
Founded in Rogers, Arkansas, in 2017, 7 Brew has quickly grown into one of the nation’s fastest-expanding drive-thru coffee chains, with more than 700 locations across 38 states. Its menu includes coffee, energy drinks, teas, lemonades, smoothies and shakes, with more than 20,000 possible drink combinations.
If approved, the Selden shop would mark 7 Brew’s first location on Long Island.
The proposal would require discretionary approvals from the Town of Brookhaven, including a change of zone.
Manzella said he has already met with representatives from 7 Brew, shopping center owner Kimco Realty and members of the Selden Civic Association board.
Manzella also requested that any trees removed during construction be replaced on the property.
“Not only did they guarantee to match the number of trees, but believe they can exceed it,” he wrote.
A condition involved the former Rite Aid building at the shopping center.
Manzella said he would not support new construction while the vacant building remained unused. According to the councilman, representatives informed him during their first meeting that Wells Fargo plans to occupy the space and renovation work has already begun.
“I believe that there is a path forward that can be mutually beneficial for both the community, and developer,” Manzella wrote, adding that he looks forward to hearing feedback from residents.
The Selden Civic Association meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Selden Fire House, located at 44 Woodmere Place.
Manzella said he also plans to provide an update on social media following the meeting for residents who cannot attend.
