Naz’s Halal Food just weeks from opening in Shirley

|

Long Island is getting set to see its fourth Naz’s Halal Food location open, this time in the former Fire Island Pizza location in Shirley.

Co-owner Kareem Mohmend told GreaterMoriches the ownership team is looking at a late August opening, but possibly as early as Aug. 22.

There is a big grand opening party planned for Aug. 31, from noon to 2 p.m. “We’ll be giving out free food,” he said.

Naz’s Halal Food, serving rice platters, gyros, burgers, salads, wings and falafel, among other items, was founded by two cousins, Naz Mashriqi and Mohmend, in 2009 as a food truck in Queens.

Both are teachers at John Bowne High School in Queens.

They opened their first brick-and-mortar restaurant in January 2018 in North Babylon. The other locations are in Brentwood and Levittown.

“We’re fusion food — a mixture of Mediterranean and American food,” Mohmend previously told us. “It’s healthy food that allows you to eat at a McDonald’s price point. Everything is made in house. Everything is fresh. We cook falafel fresh — it’s made to order.”

Their best known for their rice platters and gyros, he had said.
