New surfacing installed at Shorefront Park’s playground

|

A few months ago, the popular playground at Shorefront Park in Patchogue was taped off to the public.

That’s because it was deemed unsafe by the village because of up to two-inch holes and cracks on the ground beneath the jungle gym and play area.

The playground, which is only seven years old, was facing these surface issues because of a “botched pour” during construction, said Maria Giustizia, the director of Patchogue’s parks department.

“It could’ve been from a bunch of different factors,” explained Giustizia. “Maybe it was the heat, or it could’ve not cured just right, or maybe the mix was off.”

After reaching out about the deteriorating surface to the company that did the install, American Recreational Products, they agreed to foot the bill and replace the cushy ground.

“They are a great company to work with,” said Giustizia.

Over the last few weeks, the new surfacing began. The playground will reopen this Friday.
