New Village at Patchogue’s Village Square is about to be transformed into a “winter wonderland” in anticipation of Saturday’s tree-lighting ceremony, which is open to the public — not just residents.

“Last year was our first year and it was great,” said New Village property manager Dorothy Stallone. “We had a big turnout. We had Christmas carolers that were dressed like Dickens characters. Hot chocolate and cookie stations. And Santa Claus came and gave special treats out to all the kids.”

Santa also read ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, which was heard through the loudspeakers throughout the square, she said.

“Even if you were just walking around, you heard Santa reading ’Twas the Night Before Christmas. It was great,” she said.

The festivities start at 6:30 and run to 8:30 p.m., with the tree lighting at 7:30 p.m.

This year’s tree lighting will also feature an outdoor airing of It’s a Wonderful Life, weather permitting, which will be playing the entire two hours. The lighting party itself is rain or shine.

New Village expects its real, 18-foot tree to arrive to Patchogue tomorrow, Tuesday, by truck.

“This is going to come to life starting tomorrow,” Stallone said of the Village Square. “We call it our winter wonderland.”

The event is free, though attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.
