Newfield alum Denzel Williams signs deal with Baltimore Ravens after NFL Draft

|

Move over Elijah Riley, you’ve got some company!

Denzel Williams of Coram has joined his old Newfield High School teammate Riley in the NFL by signing an undrafted free agent contract Saturday with the Baltimore Ravens.

Williams and Riley — both defensive backs — led the Wolverines two an undefeated season in 2015, culminating in the school’s second-ever Long Island Championship.

Though he wasn’t taken in this year’s draft, he was quickly scooped up by the Ravens being one of the few UDFA signings announced.

Williams, who was a three-sport star in football, track and basketball at Newfield, played football for Sacred Heart before transferring to Villanova as a graduate student in 2020.

He possesses good ball skills and quickness, as evident by his 4.47 forty-yard dash time. This season, Williams recorded 16 total tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery for the Wildcats.

As a Wolverine on Long Island, Williams was a three-time All-Conference player and an All-State runner in track and field.
