North Shore public schools shine in national school district ranking

School districts in the GreaterPortJeff coverage area made a splash in Niche.com‘s annual best school district list.

The highest ranking went to Port Jefferson School District, which landed No. 2 in Suffolk County, No. 29 in New York State, and No. 144 nationally.

The organization gave the school district an overall grade of A+ for its academics, administrative leadership, college preparation, attention to health and safety, quality of teaching, resources and facilities for students, clubs and activities, and sports programs.

The highest-rated school district on the list went to Harborfields Central School District.

According to Niche.com, the rankings are based on “analysis of academic and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education along with test scores, college data, and ratings collected from millions of Niche users.”

Only 54 school districts made the list, with the other district’s in GreaterPortJeff’s coverage area including Three Village Central School District (No. 7), Mount Sinai School District (No. 12), and Miller Place Union Free School District (No. 26).
