Suffolk Police detectives are investigating the drowning death of an elderly woman in Northport Wednesday — the third backyard pool death on Long Island in five days.

Cops responded to a home on Devon Place after a 911 caller reported a woman found unresponsive in a kidney-shaped inground pool about 7:55 a.m., police said. Eileen Specht, 87, who lived at the home, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe Specht’s death is non-criminal, police said.

The Northport drowning is the latest in a string of backyard pool deaths involving adults across Long Island in recent days.

On Sunday, Seamus McGuickian, 64, was found unresponsive in his backyard pool in Islip Terrace and pronounced dead at the scene. Two days earlier, retired New York City Police chief, Anthony Izzo, 75, drowned in his backyard pool in Stony Brook.

The spate of deaths comes amid a summer stretch of high heat and heavy pool use across Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The investigation into Specht’s death is ongoing, police said.
