For registered nurse Dorine McGloine, a passion for health and nutrition has led to a new chapter in her life — and a new business venture in the heart of downtown Patchogue.
McGloine, who holds a master’s degree in nutrition and has long carried an interest in wellness through food, has opened The Spice & Tea Exchange of Patchogue alongside her husband, Bill. She explained how she became more deeply invested in sports nutrition as her son, an NCAA wrestler, grew more involved in athletics.
Her passion for helping others make healthier lifestyle choices eventually led her to combine her expertise with her love for natural ingredients — creating a shop where the power of spices, herbs and teas could be shared with the community.
“I love working with our customers to create bundles that help them on their wellness journeys,” she said. “Spices, herbs, aromatics and tea are a great way to add flavor and beneficial antioxidants.”
Open every day

Operating daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the shop officially opened on April 18 at 90 West Main Street — occupying the corner storefront on the southwest corner of Main Street and Railroad Avenue. The McGloines have planned a grand opening weekend event for May 16-18.
With more than 90 locations across the United States, The Spice & Tea Exchange® offers a selection of spices, herbs, aromatics, blends, teas, infused sugars, honey, olive oils and other specialty products. Visitors are encouraged to open jars, smell the blends, and sample teas and food bites.
“The Spice & Tea Exchange® brings together our two strengths – Bill’s business acumen and my passion for health,” said McGloine, who also owns The Spice & Tea Exchange® in Port Jefferson.
The Patchogue location — which includes a full-service tea bar with hot and cold pours — carries such local favorites as Spy Coast Honey. It also offers ready-to-use bundles, including a Fire Island Rocket Fuel Bundle that blends two teas and toasted coconut sugar.

The shop’s grand opening weekend will feature tea and food samples, a free gift with every $50 purchase, and special daily discounts:
