The first big snowfall of the winter is expected to hit Long Island later today.
Meteorologists are expecting an accumulation of 8 to 14 inches this afternoon into tonight.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning which will remain in effect until tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Temperatures are expected to dip into the 20s. Winds are forecasted to blow between 21 to 31 mph, with gusts that can surge to 45 mph.
Snowfall amounts can be smaller if sleet mixes in tonight, says the NWS.
It is recommended to stay off the roads during the storm.
“Travel could be very difficult to impossible,” reads the advisory.
A Coastal Flood Warning is set for tomorrow, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
