The big box game of musical chairs continues on Long Island.
Just a few days after Michaels closed at the Southport Shopping Center in Shirley, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico took to social media to announce that a HomeGoods, owned by TJX Companies, is being proposed for the vacated space.
“Michael’s is gone, but the owner of the shopping center is going to remodel and will seek a small expansion of the building for a newly proposed Home Goods,” Panico wrote on his official Facebook page.
TJX representatives said they could not comment on any announcement at this time.
The Michaels closure came despite a recent resurgence in the sprawling shopping center on Montauk Highway, which has welcomed several new businesses in recent years.
Those include Old Navy, Buffalo Wild Wings Go, Pacific Tanning and Planet Fitness.
For those missing Michaels in the area, there are 12 other locations left on Long Island, with the closest in Patchogue, Medford, Rocky Point, and Riverhead.
