Pat-Med’s Ivans graduates from U.S. Merchant Marines Academy with distinction


Steve Ivans, a cross country and track and field standout during his years at Patchogue-Medford High School, has graduated with distinction from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point.

The marine engineering major was recently featured by the academy in a Midshipman Spotlight. Nominated to the academy by former U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin, Ivans is a first rotation 2nd company PC3 and Indoc PC. He was also the Brazilian Jiujitsu club president at the USMMA and a member of the academy’s team at the Sig Sauer Relentless Warrior Competition.

With the USMMA, he has traveled the world. During mission critical Sea Year training, Ivans served as an engine cadet aboard the M/V Patriot, USNS Big Horn TAO198 and M/V Cape Ray, visiting Mexico, England, Belgium, Germany, Singapore, the Philippines and Dubai.

Ivans, who graduated from Pat-Med in 2020, plans to fulfill his military service commitment serving on his Unlimited Third Assistant Engineer’s License with American Maritime Officers and as a U..S Navy Strategic Sealift Officer.
