In his own words, Long Island high youth baseball star Jayden Stroman made it “officially official” today.
The Medford teen announced that he’ll play baseball in college at Duke — just like his older brother, Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman.
Jayden Stroman signed his letter of intent at Patchogue-Medford High School, with his mom and dad standing proudly by. Later, he posted the news to his Instagram account with the caption, “officially official.”
Stroman, who plays multiple positions in the field, including shortstop, third base and outfield, had verbally committed to Duke a little over two years ago. Wednesday, Nov. 13, is national signing day for all D1 and D2 sports outside of football or basketball.
But first, returning home
Jayden Stroman grew up playing youth baseball in Medford, living just a stone’s throw from Patchogue-Medford High School.
But he played his sophomore season at Stony Brook, and then transferred to play last year as a junior at the prestigious IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The 6-foot-2 standout transferred again earlier this year, this time to Patchogue-Medford, where he will close out his high school baseball career this spring playing for the same skipper who coached his older brother in high school 15-plus years ago.
“It’s always great to be able to coach a kid that is talented and a pleasure to be around,” longtime Pat-Med coach Anthony Frascogna said. “We’re going to help Jayden continue to make a name for himself.”
The elder Stroman has played 11 MLB seasons, including stints with the Mets, Toronto and the Chicago Cubs. He was drafted by Toronto in first round of the 2012 MLB Draft after playing at Duke for two seasons.
Wooing pro scouts
Jayden Stroman in July participated in the Perfect Game National Showcase. More recently, he impressed during Metro Scout Day in New York City on Oct. 3.
