Patchogue-Medford School Districts officially appointed its next superintendent of schools.
At the Board of Education business meeting on Monday, the board promoted interim superintendent, Dr. Donna Jones, to superintendent of schools through June of 2023. Her term will begin on Jan.1.
Jones, who has worked in the district for the last decade, filled in for Dr. Michael Hynes who stepped down as superintendent last May.
“She has managed our Business and Operations areas with unparalleled skill and creativity,” the district said in a statement. “She is responsible for many of the programs which we have in place addressing the physical, emotional, academic and social growth of our students.”
Jones becomes the 13th superintendent in the district’s 150-year history.
“This is a very exciting step for our district as we move forward to assure that our programs are strong,” added the district. “We provide the best possible education for all of the students of our district, the best resources for our staff and the best possible interaction with our community.”
For the last 26 years, Jones has worked in the education field. She has experience working in several districts, working in roles as district treasurer, accountant as well as superintendent.
