Patchogue and Riverhead join forces to promote sister summer festivals

Alive After Five

Downtown Riverhead is getting set to launch its first series of summer street festivals, which will be modeled after Patchogue’s Alive Alive Five series.

And the Riverhead Business Improvement District and Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce — the events’ chief organizers — are collaborating on planning and marketing efforts for both festivals.

Riverhead’s “Alive on 25” series, which refers to state Route 25/Main Street, will also be held on Thursday evenings in July and August but run opposite the Alive After Five festival nights.

Chamber leaders were approached by Riverhead BID officials earlier this year about collaborating.

The chamber’s executive director, David Kennedy, said he was glad to help Riverhead with some guidance.

“Patchogue’s Alive After Five has such great attendance that we are happy to give our attendees the opportunity to attend a similar event on alternating Thursday nights,” said Kennedy.

Moving forward, media and marketing efforts will encourage people to visit both cities.

Last year’s Alive After Five events shattered attendance records, with an estimated 21,000 people visiting downtown Patchogue one night alone.

Alive After Five has been widely regarded as a key part of revitalization in Patchogue Village.

Riverhead BID leaders hope Alive on 25 can help spur further growth and development for their downtown.

“We’re looking forward to providing a similar experience for visitors and local businesses alike,” said Riverhead BID vice president Steven Shauger.

Alive on 25 is free and open to the public. There will be food available from the local bars and restaurants, as well as craft beverages, local wines, craft vendors, artist exhibits, and family friendly activities. A popular classic car cruise night will be featured as well.
