The numbers are in, and Patchogue’s 9 p.m. New Year’s Eve ball drop drew an estimated 9,000 people to East Main Street on Saturday.

That’s according to the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, whose security details provides estimated for big events such as Midnight on Main St. and Alive After Five.

The 9,000 tripled the estimated 3,000 that showed to the first-ever Midnight on Main St. in Patchgoue in 2014.

Last year’s drew an estimated 6,500 to watch the ball.

“It was a great night once again,” said the chamber’s executive director, David Kennedy. “We had a larger crowd and, as always, it’s just so nice to see so many families out on Main Street enjoying the new year.”

The countdown and ball drop at the Capital One Plaza is timed for 9 p.m. to allow for local families to ring in New Year’s Eve together outdoors. It’s supported by donations.

“That’s what this event was really truly designed for,” said Kennedy, “for families in the area to celebrate the new year in a special way. And I think this year’s event really established Midnight on Main as a new annual tradition that we’ll look to repeat for many years to come.”
