Paulie’s Pizzeria opens inside former Burger Haven spot on Pulaski Road

|

Huntington Station has a new spot for thin and crispy New York–style pizza — and it comes with a side of nostalgia.

Paulie’s Pizzeria opened Aug. 18 at 76 E. Pulaski Road, the longtime home of Burger Haven. The iconic burger joint served the community for 47 years before closing in 2008, when Marco’s Pizza took over the space.

Now, Paul Hansen — who also just revived Burger Haven in Huntington Village — has brought the Pulaski Road location back to life with a new concept.

Paulie’s serves a full menu of pies, calzones, rolls, and Italian pasta dishes. Hansen said the biggest difference-maker is the dough, which goes through a two-day fermentation process to create a thin, crispy crust with a crunchy bottom that reheats well.

“We worked on a dough recipe for a few months and I think we perfected it,” Hansen told Greater Long Island. “We got what we were looking for.”

Compared to other Long Island slices, Hansen said Paulie’s pies are “not doughy and not overly saucy.” The menu also features about 20 specialty variations, alongside staples like chicken and spinach rolls, calzones, and pasta dinners.

Hansen and his partners purchased the Pulaski Road building about two and a half years ago, beginning renovations this past Memorial Day weekend. Most of the updates were cosmetic, with some new equipment, as the team worked to give the space a fresh start.

“If you’re into a classic, good-quality, thin and crispy, three-ingredient pizza, then this is for you,” Hansen said.

The launch of Paulie’s came just weeks before Hansen brought back Burger Haven, which reopened in mid-August at a new location in Huntington Village. Together, the two openings mark a busy summer for Hansen — and a revival of two classic Huntington food spots.

Paulie’s Pizzeria is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
