Peconic Bay Medical Center has just announced the Riverhead hospital has just received its fourth-consecutive “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group in its fall 2024 report.
‘A’ is the highest possible safety grade offered by the ratings agency, PBMC officials said.
Updated twice per year, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are intended to draw attention to assist patients in making informed decisions about where to seek treatment based on how safe a hospital is for patients.
“As a community hospital, the leadership and medical teams at Peconic Bay Medical Center understand that safety is paramount, and we are driven by the responsibility we have to provide care that meets the highest standards,” said Amy Loeb, PBMC president. “This fourth consecutive ‘A’ safety rating speaks to our team’s unwavering commitment to helping make eastern Suffolk County a place where residents and visitors feel confident in the quality of their care.”
The recognition has greater meaning this year as it follows the official opening of the Poole Family Trauma & Emergency Center, and the hospital seeing record numbers of both critical care patients and patients to a wide range of its specialty practices, an announcement reads
To achieve an ‘A’ safety rating, PBMC’s patient care was studied in several categories, including preventing and responding to patient harm, health care-associated infections, maternity care, medication safety, complex adult surgery, total joint replacement and care for elective outpatient surgery patients, the announcement reads.
PBMC received exemplary scores in each category.
“Our continued recognition by The Leapfrog Group reflects the hard work and dedication of every staff member and the high expectations we set for ourselves as healthcare providers,” said Dr. Jeffrey Zilberstein, PBMC’s medical director. “Safety is more than just a rating; it’s a promise to each patient and family who walks through our doors. We believe that everyone in Suffolk County deserves access to world-class medical care that prioritizes safety and quality at every step.
“This achievement is a testament to our commitment and our belief that healthcare in this region should be nothing short of exceptional.”
