Photo Essay: Benny Migs on his ‘Project Face Mask’ shoot in Patchogue

The world and Long Island is suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a photographer, I wanted to help through my art.

The hospitals were tough to get at, so I decided to go a different route.

With the help of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, I embarked on compiling a photo essay called Project Face Mask.

With 90 percent of the businesses in Patchogue Village — where I live and work — either closed or partially shut down, I wanted to capture these ailing business owners and others in their own environments.

All are wearing masks.

Above all, I wanted to capture the emotions we are experiencing right now as small business owners.

I didn’t want these images to look perfect, because none of us are. Especially right now, though we’re trying.
