Port Jefferson launches live camera trained on the harbor

|

There’s now a way to drink in the beauty of Port Jefferson — that, or witness a coming nor’easter — right from home.

The North Shore village launched a webcam at the Village Center, which will be recording a live feed of Harborfront Park 24/7.

The camera, which shoots in 4K resolution, is a part of EarthCam‘s premier network of tourism cameras across the world.

Since rolling out the camera last month, it’s been viewed nearly 40,000 times.

“We are so very proud to have the Village of Port Jefferson be the first village in Suffolk County, Long Island on the EarthCam network,” said Port Jeff Mayor Margot Garant.

“Now, its residents, visitors, and the world can share in the beauty of our stunning harborfront village.”

According to another village official, Kevin Wood, one of the best parts of the feed is the harbor.

“It really has become a work of art,” said Wood. “The complexion of the harbor changes every 20 minutes to an hour.”
