Port Jefferson School District hires new athletic director, Adam Sherrard

The Port Jefferson School District has just hired a new director of health, physical education and athletics.

Adam Sherrard of Farmingville was hired on July, 25, the district just announced.

The new A.D. holds degrees from Stony Brook University (graduate certificate in educational leadership); Touro University International (master of arts in educational leadership and administration); and Cortland University (bachelor of science in physical education).

In addition to his educational background, Sherrard has both teaching and coaching experience at schools in Prince George County, Md., as well as in Smithtown and Huntington.

Most recently, he taught physical education at the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet Intermediate School in the Huntington Union Free School District where he helped secure grant funding for new filtered water foundation and fitness equipment, reads the announcement.

“The energy and enthusiasm that Mr. Sherrard exudes will serve our district well,” said Port Jeff superintendent Paul Casciano. “We look forward to his leadership and progressive ideas in building on the many successes of our athletic program.”

Sherrard is excited to get started.

“I’m eager to work with the students, staff, nurses, administrators, coaches, and parents in the district,” he said. “Since I first arrived here, I noticed the commitment to the well-being of students is profound and I look forward to continuing to strengthen the positive environment in the Port Jefferson School District.”
