A 62-year-old woman was struck and killed by a Suffolk County Transit bus Tuesday night in Port Jefferson Station as she tried to run across Route 25A, authorities said.
Suffolk County Police said Carrie Sansone of Port Jefferson Station was attempting to cross the busy roadway (also called Main Street) about 10:05 p.m. in front of 204 Route 25A when she was hit by a southbound bus.
Sansone was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The bus driver, 51-year-old Louis Livingstone of Coram, and the single passenger on board were not injured, police said.
The bus has been impounded for a safety inspection. Detectives meanwhile are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the police department’s Sixth Squad at 631.854.8652.
