Additional parking is coming to downtown Port Jefferson.
The Village of Port Jefferson announced this week it will be adding a new municipal parking area along Barnum Avenue, near West Broadway, where a house once stood.
In 2017, the village acquired the home at 303 Barnum Avenue, which was later demolished to clear space for the new lot.
Now, according to the village, over the course of the year, the location will be transformed into a paved parking lot big enough for 46 vehicles — an 8 percent increase in parking for the area.
The village’s parking administrator Kevin Wood says there are possible plans for adding meters to the area. If so, it would be at a lower rate to accommodate village employees and park goers.
