Raising Canes calls off Bay Shore plans; Carle Place moves forward

|

Executives at the uber-popular Raising Canes Chicken Fingers are shuffling their plans for an expected expansion onto Long Island.

First, proposals for a Bay Shore location are being called off, a company spokesperson has informed Greater Long Island.

“While we were previously exploring a location in Bay Shore, we ultimately decided to pursue other opportunities in the area and are looking at Commack and Farmingdale for late 2026 and early 2027 openings, respectively,” the spokesperson wrote in an email.

But the Carle Place location for the fast-casual restaurant at 1028 Old Country Rd. is moving forward, and is slated to open in early 2027, the spokesperson added.

Exact locations for Farmingdale or Commack were not provided, though Newsday has reported that Raising Canes filed planning documents with the Town of Smithtown for a location at 2 Vanderbilt Parkway.

Last year, the company had said it called off plans for Commack, East Meadow and Hauppauge.

No reasons were given to GLI to explain all the changes.

Founded by Todd Graves in 1996 at Louisiana State University, Raising Cane’s — known for its chicken finger meals, Texas toast and secret Cane’s sauce — has ballooned to some 800 spots across the U.S. and beyond, according to its website.

The latest just opened last month in Canton, Mich., marking the chain’s first foray into the metro Detroit area.

The company opened what it calls its flagship store in Times Square in June of 2024. While in Times Square, Raising Cane’s founder and CEO, Todd Graves, spoke with Greater Long Island.

The company, he had said at the time, had ambitious plans to open “hundreds” of locations across New York State, particularly in the Tri-State area.

The initial hope was to have three open on Long Island by 2025.

There are currently no locations in Nassau or Suffolk counties, though there are seven in Manhattan and the outer boroughs.
