Raising Cane’s, the Louisiana-based chicken-finger chain, is looking to open in Farmingdale.
The company’s plan calls for replacing Long Island’s last remaining Houlihan’s restaurant, which remains open on Route 110, according to planning documents filed with the Town of Babylon.
The proposed location is at 901 Broadhollow Road, within the busy Republic Plaza shopping center that’s anchored by a Walmart Supercenter.
The plans call for demolishing the existing restaurant to construct a Raising Cane’s with two drive-thru lanes and 72 indoor and 15 outdoor seats, “along with associated site improvements,” according to the documents, obtained by GLI.
The application is on the town’s Planning Board agenda for Nov. 17.
It will also need to go the Zoning Board of Appeals for a parking variance. That hearing date is pending, town officials said.
The story was first reported by Long Island Business News.
Raising Cane’s is still pursuing Long Island sites in Carle Place and Commack, according to LIBN and prior Greater Long Island reports.
The chain, founded in 1996 in Baton Rouge, now operates more than 900 restaurants worldwide and logged about $5 billion in annual sales last year, according to the Raising Canes website.
Its menu centers almost entirely on chicken fingers, fries, Texas toast and its signature Cane’s Sauce.
Farmingdale has stood as Long Island’s last Houlihans, after the Wesbury location closed in January of 2020, just a few weeks after the restaurant chain’s prior parent company had filed for bankruptcy.
There was also a once-popular Houlihan’s locations near Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, among others that had come and gone over the past three to four decades on Long Island.
The first Houlihan’s opened on April 1, 1972, in Kansas City. The brand is now owned by Landry’s, which purchased Houlihan’s in 2020.
A request has been placed with Landry’s media contacts for additional information.
The 8,500-square-foot Farmingdale building at 923 Broadhollow Road (Route 110) is also currently listed for rent by Breslin Realty on loopnet.com, a commercial real estate listing service.
